Do we understand what we play on the piano?

Many of us have no problem reading the notes of a masterpiece. We can certainly learn it note by note. If luckily the piece does not have more than four flats or four sharps, we might get through one page after half an hour. Then you go for a water break and have a snack and when you come back to the piano, you realise you do not remember most of the notes you played before.

Passing the grade 8 piano exam has just opened the gate of the world of classical music.

The Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin has performed and recorded both Chopin's piano concerti at the age of 12. Argentinian pianist Daniel Barenboim has recorded the complete Beethoven piano sonatas (that is more than 700 pages of piano music) during 1966- 1969 when he was only about 22- 25 years old. 
 
Realising the examples above, you would not be surprised by a young primary school student who can pass grade 8 piano exam which....
How do we help our students become confident and skilled as a pianist and make piano teaching meaningful and rewarding.

Our lifetime is limited. Of course we can focus on just enjoying everything in life without worrying about achievements. However it should not be the case when it comes to education or studies. We want to improve fast and be able to achieve something after we spend time and effort committing to piano lessons and practice.
